01
New AI-Powered Features Roll Out to Smart Window Beta
Mozilla announced that the Smart Window beta for Firefox desktop now includes two AI-driven capabilities: automatic form filling that draws information from a user’s open tabs, and a “watch” function that monitors selected webpages for changes such as price drops or new job listings. The features are initially available to English-language users in the United States and Canada, with broader rollout planned in the coming months.
02
How the Features Work
When a user clicks into a web form containing at least four text fields, an option to “Fill from sources” appears. Firefox then lists the open tabs it can reference; the user may select or deselect tabs, and the browser generates suggested answers based on the content of those pages. Mozilla notes that the suggestions are produced by Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite model, meaning the text from the chosen tabs is shared with that AI for processing.
For website monitoring, users type “/watch” in the Smart Window chat, describe the change they want to track, and add up to five webpages per task. Firefox checks the pages daily or weekly—only while the browser remains open—and notifies the user via the Tasks button or desktop notifications when a match is found. Tasks automatically pause after 60 days without a matching change and stop entirely after 90 days. Users can maintain up to 15 active tasks, editing, pausing, or deleting them as needed.

03
Context and Recent Developments
Smart Window, originally announced as “AI Window” nearly a year ago, was designed as an opt-in AI assistant that can summarize content, compare information across tabs, and answer natural-language queries. Earlier updates added AI-enhanced web search, automatic tab grouping, duplicate-tab detection, and natural-language browsing-history search. The current enhancements extend the assistant’s utility beyond information retrieval to active form completion and proactive webpage monitoring.
04
Potential Impact on Browsing Experience
By leveraging AI to generate context-aware form responses, Firefox aims to reduce manual data entry and streamline tasks such as job applications, where users can pull work-history details from LinkedIn or personal portfolios. The monitoring tool offers a built-in alternative to third-party price-alert services, potentially increasing user engagement with the browser. However, Mozilla’s disclosure that tab content is transmitted to external AI models raises privacy considerations that users must weigh against convenience.
05
Official Outlook
Mozilla emphasizes that the new capabilities are part of an incremental rollout, with plans to add support for dropdown menus, PDFs, and additional languages in future updates. The company positions Smart Window as a competitive response to similar AI features in other browsers, seeking to enhance productivity while maintaining user control over data sharing.
