New 3D Home Map Overview
Amazon has upgraded its Alexa Home Map from a 2D layout to an interactive 3D view that displays both interior and exterior spaces. The interface places connected devices—Echo speakers, Ring and Blink cameras, Fire TV units, lights, locks, thermostats and more—on a digital replica of the house. Real-time animations show smart lights glowing in their set color, music notes dancing around active speakers, and weather effects such as rain or snow matching local conditions. Exterior cameras provide a 360-degree live preview that animates passing cars and pedestrians.

How It Works
To create the map, users enter their address, prompting Amazon to pull a 3D model of the property and neighborhood from Mapbox. Users then walk through each room with a compatible iPhone (or future Android devices) to scan the interior using LiDAR or a plain-video scanner currently in testing. An average home takes about 15–20 minutes to scan. After the scan, devices are dragged from the app tray onto their exact locations on the map, and users can filter by device type, switch between light and dark modes, and zoom across floors.

Interactive Features
The map lets users control core functions directly—tapping a light tile to toggle it, sliding a slider to adjust volume or brightness, and checking camera feeds. An interactive timeline rewinds the last 24 hours across all cameras, helping users track package deliveries or other movements while away. Amazon also plans themed visual modes for holidays such as Halloween and Christmas.

- “These touches make the map feel less like a diagram and more like a living picture of your home, and it'll continue to get even better over time,” — Amazon
