Q3 2026 Financial Results and Updated Guidance
Sandoz Group AG reported third-quarter 2026 net sales of $2.94 billion, a 5 % increase at constant-currency versus the prior year but below the analyst consensus of $3.01 billion. Biosimilar sales rose 17 %, representing 34 % of quarter-long net sales, while generic sales were flat. The company cited a temporary headwind in the German market and an anti-infective business-to-business slowdown that it expects to be immaterial in the fourth quarter and next year.
Based on the results, Sandoz narrowed its full-year sales growth guidance to 5-6 % at constant-currency (previously mid-to-high single-digit) and lifted its core-EBITDA margin outlook to 23.0 %-23.5 % for 2026 (up from 22.7 %).
02
Background: European Antibiotic Dependence and Biosimilar Strategy
Sandoz operates the €150 million (? $168 million) Kundl, Austria plant, the only fully integrated antibiotic-manufacturing facility in Europe. 86 % of EU penicillin and derivative imports came from China (Eurostat), up from 44 % in 2019.
In response, Sandoz filed a complaint to the European Commission in May seeking an antidumping investigation into Chinese amoxicillin active-ingredient imports and cited the EU Critical Medicines Act—provisionally approved in May—as a step toward securing supply of key medicines.
Strategically, Sandoz is expanding its biosimilar portfolio. At its Capital Markets Day, the firm unveiled the Bio100 ambition to launch more than 100 biosimilars by 2040, up from the current 13. The company estimates that upcoming patent expirations worth a combined $650 billion will create a “golden decade” for biosimilars.

Official Statements & Responses
Richard Saynor, CEO, emphasized the competitive disadvantage posed by “heavily subsidized Asian players” and called for a “level playing field” in European markets. He warned that reliance on Asian antibiotic supplies could be leveraged as “economic coercion or hybrid warfare” during geopolitical tension.
CFO Remco Steenbergen noted that biosimilars now account for 34 % of the portfolio and are “more profitable than generics,” underscoring the margin uplift.

Sandoz will release its nine-month and third-quarter 2026 sales update on October 28, 2026. The update will test whether the 20 % first-half biosimilar growth can be sustained. The company also plans to continue expanding its biosimilar pipeline and to monitor the outcome of its antidumping complaint.
