Summary

Burnley FC appointed Fabio Celestini as head coach, replacing Nicky Hayen.
Burnley sit 22nd in the Championship with only one win from twelve matches.
Celestini will debut in the dugout against Portsmouth at Turf Moor on Saturday 31 October.
He previously guided Basel to a Swiss Super League and Cup double in 2024-25.
Chief football officer Diego López said Celestini brings passion, experience and extraordinary determination.

History

Jimmy Mullen took charge of Burnley in 1991-92 after Frank Casper’s resignation, steering the Clarets to promotion that season and again via the 1994 Second Division play-offs. After a poor start in early 1995 the club fell back to Division Two and Mullen was dismissed after the 1995-96 campaign. Burnley’s current search for a revival echoes those earlier turnaround attempts.
