01
Core Decision and Scope
On Monday, October 26 2026, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC)—the Defence Ministry’s top procurement body—convened under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and accorded an Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for capital acquisition proposals valued at roughly INR2.12 lakh crore. The approvals span a wide array of platforms, weapons and surveillance systems intended for the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.
02
Service-Specific Acquisitions
Army: The DAC cleared procurement of high-mobility vehicles (HMVs), self-propelled tracked gun systems, gun-shot response systems (Gun Shot Response Systems (GSRS)), light multi-role helicopters (LMRH), very short-range air-defence systems (VSHORADS), platform-based counter-UAS (C-UAS), long-range unmanned aerial systems, surveillance UAVs, an integrated surveillance-and-strike suite and long-range kamikaze drones.
Navy: Approvals include active offboard decoy systems (Active Offboard Decoy Systems (AODS)) and other major indigenously designed naval platforms aimed at enhancing anti-missile defences and overall combat potential.
Air Force: The council authorised acquisition of special-utility helicopters, air-defence systems, a range of weapons and mobile X-Band Doppler weather-radar systems to improve air-defence and forward-area weather surveillance.

03
Emphasis on Indigenous Production
According to the Ministry of Defence, about 82 % of the total procurement value is slated to be sourced from the domestic defence industry, reflecting a policy push toward self-reliance in critical military hardware.
04
Anticipated Capability Gains
The Ministry describes the HMVs as a means to strengthen logistics and mobility in challenging terrain, while the self-propelled tracked gun systems are expected to give mechanised formations matching mobility and firepower. GSRS will provide real-time situational awareness, and VSHORADS are intended to counter emerging small-aerial threats. For the Air Force, the X-Band Doppler radar is projected to deliver high-resolution, localized weather data in forward operating zones, supporting both combat and humanitarian missions.
05
Implementation Outlook
The AoN represents in-principle approval; detailed contracts and production schedules will follow as the Ministry of Defence proceeds with vendor selection and final specifications. The approved package is positioned to modernise India’s armed forces across all three services in the coming years.
