Expansion Plan and Funding

A press release accompanying the ceremony stated that the 30 laboratories were built at a total cost of INR5.10 crore. An MoU signed during the event commits Schneider Electric India and the Directorate of Employment and Training to establish similar labs at an additional 40 government ITIs, with an estimated investment of INR6.80 crore.

03

Beneficiary Impact

The same release projected that the new facilities will serve 9,250 students each year. At the inauguration, Vijay presented INR25,000 cheques to each of 15 students who won the 59th State-Level Skill Competition, awarded certificates of appreciation to 60 students who achieved national first-rank positions in the All India Trade Test, and handed appointment orders to 673 candidates selected as Junior Training Officers by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.

Official Responses

Vijay highlighted the rise in national toppers from 40 the previous year to 60 this year, noting that Tamil Nadu’s overall national ranking in the trade-test results improved from fourth to second. He also inspected modern training equipment—including turning, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, CNC machining and laser-cutting labs—and interacted with students undergoing electrician, wireman and fitter trades, including those with hearing and speech disabilities.

What’s Next

The signed MoU outlines the rollout of the additional 40 laboratories, though specific timelines were not disclosed. The initiative is positioned as a step toward strengthening technical skill development and enhancing employment prospects for trainees across the state.
