Jesse Adams was killed by a Russian FPV drone while loading rescued dogs and cats in Kramatorsk on October 25.
He had rescued 80 dogs and cats in a single day and estimated saving 700-1,000 animals overall.
By February 24 2026, over 6 million animals had died and more than 20% of Ukraine’s protected areas were affected.

History

During the 1991 Gulf War, Iraqi forces deliberately dumped roughly 4 million barrels of oil into the Persian Gulf, coating shorelines and killing about 30,000 seabirds while damaging Saudi and Kuwaiti habitats. The environmental catastrophe highlighted the need for wildlife protection in war. Today, volunteers in Ukraine’s 2022-2026 conflict echo those impacts, rescuing hundreds of animals amid ongoing shelling.
