01

Expanded Autofill Capabilities

Google announced that Chrome’s enhanced autofill feature is being upgraded to use its Gemini AI model together with Personal Intelligence. The change enables the browser to suggest information drawn from a user’s Gmail messages while completing online forms. Suggested items can include shipment tracking numbers, flight confirmation codes, hotel reservations, recent order numbers, membership IDs, phone numbers and credit-card details. The feature appears in the autofill dropdown under a “Suggested by Gemini” label when relevant data is found.

02

How the System Retrieves Information

The update builds on the Personal Intelligence framework introduced earlier, which already allowed Gemini to access Google apps for answering complex queries. When a user begins filling a form, Chrome scans the user’s Gmail inbox for emails that contain the needed data, extracts the relevant fields, and presents them as autofill options. The process runs locally in the browser; only encrypted snippets are transmitted for suggestion generation, and the full email content remains protected.

03

Privacy Controls and Data Security

Google emphasizes that any sensitive data shown as a suggestion remains encrypted. Users retain full control through Chrome’s settings: they can review which Gmail-derived suggestions are offered, delete individual entries, or disable the enhanced autofill feature entirely. The rollout applies to Chrome on desktop, Android and iOS for users who have Personal Intelligence enabled.

04

Potential Impact on User Experience

Tech analysts note that the AI-driven autofill could make Chrome more convenient, encouraging users to stay within Google’s browser and AI ecosystem. By reducing the need to switch between tabs or copy-paste information from emails, the feature may improve form-completion speed and lower friction for e-commerce and travel bookings.

05

Rollout Status

The enhancement is being released now to users in the United States across all supported platforms. Google indicates the rollout will continue gradually, with the option for users to opt out at any time.
