01

Quarterly Results Overview

Mastercard (MA) posted third-quarter 2026 results that exceeded analyst expectations. Net revenue rose 14% YoY to $14.2 billion on a currency-neutral, non-GAAP basis, while diluted earnings per share increased 21% to $5.31. Value-added services and solutions (VAS) grew 19% YoY, outpacing the payment-network segment’s 11% rise. Adjusted operating income climbed 15% to $5.9 billion, and the adjusted operating margin improved 70 basis points to 60.5%.

02

Growth Drivers

The stronger performance stemmed from three interrelated factors:

  • Cross-border activity – worldwide gross dollar volume grew 7% (local-currency) and cross-border volume rose 11%, delivering higher fees per transaction.
  • Pricing initiatives – price increases across both the network and VAS lines added to revenue expansion.
  • VAS demand – security, digital authentication, and customer-engagement solutions added $4.1 billion in VAS net revenue (up 19%).

Higher payment-network rebates increased 18% YoY, partially offsetting the revenue boost, while operating expenses grew 12% YoY, driven mainly by general-and-administrative costs.

Official Statements & Responses

Chief Financial Officer Ling Hai, newly appointed, highlighted the company’s “diversified growth model” and disciplined pricing. She noted some revenue timing shifted from Q4 into Q3, which could modestly temper Q4 growth.

Management reaffirmed its full-year outlook, projecting net-revenue growth at the high end of low double-digit percentages on a currency-neutral basis, with operating expenses rising at a low-double-digit rate and a modest foreign-exchange headwind.

06

Conflicting Reports & Gaps

Two releases present differing net-revenue figures for the same quarter. The Fool article reports GAAP net revenue of $9.8 billion, while the Biggo release cites a currency-neutral, non-GAAP net revenue of $14.2 billion. Both agree on a 14% YoY increase, but the basis of measurement is not clarified, leaving a gap in reconciling the two figures.

07

What’s Next

For Q4 2026, Mastercard expects net-revenue growth at the high end of low double-digit percentages, offset by a one-percentage-point foreign-exchange headwind and a similar drag from acquisitions. Operating expenses are projected to increase at the high end of low double-digit rates, with a 0.5-percentage-point FX tailwind.
