Earnings Beat and Revised Outlook

On October 29, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings reported third-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings of $1.12 per share, surpassing the Wall Street consensus of $0.94. Revenue reached $2.95 billion, topping analysts’ $2.88 billion estimate, while adjusted EBITDA came in at $937 million, exceeding the company’s own guidance of $874 million. Net income for the quarter was $491 million, or $1.07 per share. Based on the stronger performance, the firm lifted its full-year 2026 outlook to about $2.55 billion in adjusted EBITDA and roughly $1.70 in adjusted earnings per share.

02

Operational Drivers

The results were driven by modestly improved late-stage bookings, higher onboard spending, and disciplined cost management. Management highlighted $100 million of additional run-rate savings from reduced guest and crew air travel. Net yield—a measure of revenue per passenger-day—fell 6.7% in constant currency, a narrower decline than the 8.9% drop the company had previously guided. The company also cited upcoming enhancements such as a new waterpark at its Great Stirrup Cay private island and the launch of a new marketing platform in January.

Leadership Transition

The company announced a senior-leadership change effective January 1, 2027: Chief Strategy Officer Meghan Montana will assume the chief financial officer role, succeeding Mark A. Kempa, who will remain an adviser through June 2027 after more than 25 years with Norwegian. Montana joined the firm in January 2026 after senior finance positions at American Airlines.

04

Outlook and Risks

For the remainder of 2026, Norwegian projects adjusted EBITDA of about $414 million in Q4 and an adjusted loss of $0.12 per share. The firm expects constant-currency net yield to decline roughly 4.4% for the year, with a modest 1%–2% net-yield growth forecast for 2027, accelerating in the second half. Risks noted include an unfavorable mix impact from the delayed delivery of the Seven Seas Prestige vessel and cancellations of selected Seven Seas Voyager sailings through the Suez Canal, as well as higher fuel costs that rose to $819 per metric ton.

05

Market Reaction

Following the earnings release, Norwegian’s shares jumped 13% (approximately 13.7% according to market reports), outpacing peers whose stocks rose 2%–3% in the same session. Despite the rally, Norwegian remains down about 21% year-to-date, while Royal Caribbean and Carnival posted gains of 12% and 4%, respectively, underscoring the company’s ongoing turnaround challenges.
