New Delhi–Varanasi Route Details
The Railway Board has approved a semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Sleeper Express between New Delhi and Varanasi. Operated by Northern Railway, the orange-and-grey train will run six days a week with train 27421 departing Varanasi at 20:50 and arriving in Delhi at 05:55, and train 27422 leaving Delhi at 21:40 to reach Varanasi at 06:45. Covering 760 km in nine hours 30 minutes, the service will use 16 coaches offering Third AC, Second AC and First AC accommodation. An official indicated that fares will be slightly higher than existing services on the route, reflecting the upgraded amenities. The launch is expected to be flagged off by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Varanasi.

Bengaluru–Mumbai Route Details
The Railway Board also cleared a Vande Bharat Sleeper Express linking Bengaluru and Mumbai. It will cover 1,118 km in approximately 16 hours, departing Bengaluru around 19:45 and arriving in Mumbai around midday the next day. The service will stop at eight stations—Anantapur, Guntakal, Raichur, Yadgir, Kalaburagi, Solapur, Pune and Kalyan—each for no more than five minutes; the Yadgir stop was added after passenger-forum requests. The train will operate six days a week.

Official Statements & Responses
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that both routes have received his approval, with the Bengaluru–Mumbai service slated for a flag-off ceremony on November 1, as a senior railway official told Indian Express. He emphasized that the new sleepers will “transform overnight travel” between the respective city pairs. The Railway Board highlighted that the trains are built by BEML using technology from the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai.
04
Expected Impact
Both services aim to provide faster, more comfortable overnight connections on high-traffic corridors, potentially shifting passenger preference from air and road travel. By offering premium classes and reduced journey times, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Expresses are positioned to meet growing demand for efficient long-distance rail options, especially during the festive season.
