Doug Bowser, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America (NoA), has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2025. Bowser has held the presidency since 2019, succeeding Reggie Fils-Aimé, and has been instrumental in overseeing significant milestones for the company, including the successful launch of the Nintendo Switch and its successor, the Nintendo Switch 2. Devon Pritchard, currently the Executive Vice President of Revenue, Marketing, and Consumer Experience, will succeed Bowser as president.
Bowser's Tenure and Achievements
Bowser joined Nintendo in 2015 as Vice President of Sales and Marketing, later becoming Senior Vice President of Sales in 2016. Under his leadership, the Nintendo Switch sold over 153 million units, making it the third-best-selling gaming console of all time. The recent launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 in June 2025 marked a significant achievement, as it became the fastest-selling console in history during its launch period. Additionally, Bowser played a key role in expanding Nintendo's brand into new entertainment ventures, including theme parks and films.

As part of the leadership transition, Satoru Shibata will join NoA as Chief Executive Officer while continuing his roles at Nintendo Co., Ltd. Pritchard will also join the NoA Board of Directors and serve as an executive officer at the parent company. The leadership changes signal a new chapter for Nintendo of America as it continues to innovate and expand its reach in the gaming and entertainment industries.
