Core Findings on Male Grooming Trends

A recent survey conducted by Talker Research, commissioned by Just For Men, reveals a significant shift in grooming habits among U.S. men aged 25 and older. The study, which surveyed 2,000 men, found that 68% of participants care more about their appearance today than they did five years ago. Furthermore, 70% indicated they seek external assistance to mitigate age-related changes, with popular methods including skin serums (24%), specialty shampoos for thinning hair (23%), and styling changes (22%).

Motivations Behind Increased Grooming

The survey highlights several motivations driving this trend. A majority of men (59%) reported that enhancing self-confidence is a primary reason for their increased grooming efforts. Additionally, 48% aim to be more appealing to partners, while 37% want to make a stronger impression in professional settings. Notably, 62% of men pay close attention to signs of aging, although many feel uncomfortable discussing these concerns with friends and family.

Grooming Routines and Influences

On average, men maintain a seven-step grooming routine, with a focus on body care (83%), facial hair (80%), and head hair (78%). Influences on these routines vary, with 38% citing family members as their primary source of inspiration, followed by social media (32%) and friends (31%). Despite the growing attention to grooming, 38% of men rarely discuss anti-aging topics, reflecting a lingering stigma around aging.

Concerns About Aging

The survey also sheds light on men's specific concerns regarding aging. Gray hair emerged as a significant issue, with 63% of men reporting they have encountered gray hairs, typically finding their first by age 29. Many expressed feelings of surprise (50%) and annoyance (23%) upon discovering their first gray hair. Overall, 75% of men wish to slow down age-related changes, and 65% desire to prevent the onset of gray hairs.
