South Korea Announces “Fanomenon” — an 11-Day Global K-Culture Festival for December 2027

7/29/2026, 2:03:16 PM

Core Event

On July 27, the Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange revealed that South Korea will launch Fanomenon, an 11-day festival scheduled for December 2-12, 2027. The program combines large-scale K-pop concerts, a fan-focused awards ceremony, and an interactive cultural expo covering Korean cuisine, beauty, fashion, gaming, webtoons, film, television and animation.

Organizational Backing and Structure

The festival is co-chaired by Culture Minister Chae Hwi-young and Park Jin-young (founder of JYP Entertainment), who presented the plan at a press conference in Seoul’s National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. The “Big Four” entertainment companies—HYBE, YG, JYP and SM—are the primary industry partners, bringing groups such as BTS, BIGBANG, BLACKPINK, TWICE, Girls’ Generation and EXO into the lineup. Fanomenon will be hosted at the under-construction Seoul Arena in Chang-dong and the KINTEX second exhibition center in Goyang.

Projected Scale and Economic Impact

The Korea Culture and Tourism Institute projects about 520,000 total visitors, including 200,000 overseas tourists, and an economic contribution exceeding 1 trillion won (approximately $680 million). Attendance estimates draw on the turnout for BTS’s “The Comeback Live | ARIRANG” concert earlier in the year.

Official Statements from Government and Industry Leaders

Minister Chae emphasized that the event is intended to create a Korean counterpart to the world’s largest entertainment festivals, positioning K-culture as a driver of tourism and related industries.

Anticipated Cultural and Tourism Impact

Organizers envision Fanomenon as a catalyst for expanding Korea’s cultural ecosystem beyond music, offering exposure for emerging artists and smaller agencies while showcasing a broad array of cultural content. A global touring version is slated for May 2028, with a Los Angeles edition identified as the first overseas stop, aiming to extend the festival’s reach and reinforce South Korea’s soft-power presence worldwide.
