Historical Context

In 1999 Statnett and TenneT commissioned the 580 km NorNed HVDC link, the first large-scale offshore cable using XLPE insulation and delivering 580 MW at ±450 kV. Its successful cross-border design proved XLPE’s marine reliability, a model Hanwha Solutions now follows in MOUs with China’s ZTT and Hengtong to co-develop 132 kV offshore wind XLPE cables for SEHV and HVDC projects.
