Story summary

People’s House museum updated its replica Oval Office to President Donald Trump’s second-term design.
The replica now shows gilded vases, gold onlays, two dozen portraits, mirrors, and a Declaration copy.
Designers from North Carolina, Indiana, California, Canada, and Virginia made wall appliqués, frames, and tabletop pieces.
A 25-person crew worked Monday-Friday and completed the update on Saturday.
Builders used paint, not gold leaf, to protect the replica from visitor wear.

History

Historical Context

In early 1993 First Lady Barbara Bush directed a $15 million White House renovation that restored historic rooms and refreshed the Oval Office, carried out by the National Park Service, architect James McMullan, and a 30-person crew over eight months. The effort coincided with Bill Clinton’s inauguration, highlighting bipartisan commitment to preserving presidential heritage.
