History

Historical Context

Vincenzo Peruggia stole the Mona Lisa from the Louvre on 21 August 1911, a crime that shocked France and later resulted in a US$100 million insurance valuation in 1962. The 2024 theft of 104 PSA-graded cards from a FedEx truck mirrors that notoriety, prompting carriers and insurers to adopt GPS tracking and higher coverage limits.
