Assam-Linked Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Blast in Bengaluru Under-Construction Site

By Drooid · · How we work

Incident Overview

On October 20, an improvised explosive device (IED) concealed inside a torch battery detonated inside a parcel left at a petty shop on Jeremiah Road in Bengaluru’s Pulakeshinagar locality. The explosion injured two construction workers, both of whom were taken to hospital for serious injuries. Police identified the blast as an experiment gone wrong while the device was intended for a specific individual.

Investigation Findings

Bengaluru police deployed ten special teams for a 72-hour operation, reviewing more than 1,500 CCTV cameras and questioning over 100 people. The effort led to the arrest of three men from Dinanathpur village in Assam’s Hailakandi district: Bhurhan Ahmad Burbhuiyya, 20; Jahidull Hussain Burbhuiyya, 27; and Sajidull Lashkar, 22. Two were seized in Bengaluru, while the third was captured in Maski, Raichur district. Investigators said the suspects formed a WhatsApp group, obtained information through online applications, purchased raw materials locally and manufactured the IED themselves before placing it in the parcel.

Motive and Alleged Conspiracy

Police statements allege that the prime accused, Bhurhan Ahmad Burbhuiyya, conspired with his childhood friends to murder his cousin, Allauddin Barbhaij, 53, a security guard from Assam who was among the injured. The parcel was intended for Allauddin, but a co-worker opened it, triggering the blast.

Official Responses

Commissioner of Police Seemant Kumar Singh said investigators examined every possible angle, including terrorism, before concluding that personal rivalry was the motive. A police commissioner’s officer described the plot as a pre-meditated murder scheme linked to the family dispute.

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Inquiry

All three suspects have been remanded to police custody by a court. Interrogations are continuing, and the investigation remains open as authorities seek further evidence on the conspiracy and any additional accomplices.
