- After the U.S.-led coalition began airstrikes against IS in August 2014, Jordan joined the campaign, contributing fighter jets alongside U.S. forces. Coalition sorties averaged 67 bombs daily by late 2015 and had struck 32,000 targets by the end of 2016, crippling IS territory. In 2024 Jordan and Syria reopened the Nassib crossing and formed a joint security committee, aiming to stabilize the border and curb remaining IS cells.
