History

After eight winless league games in 2024, United kept interim coach Michael Carrick, echoing the 2016 caretaker spell when Ryan Giggs took charge for three matches, earning only two points and a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea. That period followed Louis van Gaal’s May 2016 dismissal, a season that saw United miss the Champions League and spend £59.7 million on Ángel Di María.
