History

After the 1956 Suez Crisis, Egypt’s Law 391 labeled Zionism a ground for denaturalization and the next day the Minister of Religious Affairs ordered the expulsion of the Egyptian Jewish community. In 1975 President Anwar Sadat’s Law 26 retained gender-biased nationality rules, which a 2004 Supreme Constitutional Court ruling declared unconstitutional.
