  • After the Dayton Accords were signed on 14 December 1995, NATO launched IFOR on 20 December 1995, deploying about 60,000 troops from 32 nations to enforce the peace and replace UNPROFOR. IFOR’s one-year mandate gave way to SFOR, which later became the EUFOR Althea force that now fields roughly 1,200 soldiers. The recent CH-47 crash echoes earlier helicopter losses in the same theater.
