History

In 1995 the European Tour, operating as the Volvo Tour, grew to 36 Order-of-Merit events and revised Ryder Cup qualification by adding major prize money and reducing captain’s picks to two. Those reforms tied players more closely to the Tour, a loyalty model that later shaped debates over membership rules and elite participation.
