- The Election Commission of India, created in 1950, has periodically overhauled voter lists, notably introducing electoral photo identity cards in 1993 to curb fraud. Building on that tradition, the Greater Bengaluru Authority’s Special Intensive Revision this year cut the city’s roll by 43%, deleting over 4.4 million names and adding 274 thousand voters. Such large-scale clean-ups echo past nationwide efforts and force parties to adjust campaign strategies.
