History

Netflix began as a DVD-by-mail service in 1997, added a monthly subscription in September 1999, and shifted to streaming in 2007, later building a reputation for preserving classic TV through original documentaries. The 2026 SCTV documentary, featuring Eugene Levy, Martin Short and Dave Thomas, extends that archival strategy, using the platform’s global reach to reintroduce 1980s comedy to new audiences.
