History

Michael Owen captured the 2001 Ballon d’Or after Liverpool’s 2000-01 treble of the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup, becoming the fourth English player—and the first since Kevin Keegan’s 1979 win—to earn Europe’s top individual honor.
