Summary

The San Francisco 49ers acquired defensive tackle DeForest Buckner from the Indianapolis Colts.
Buckner, a 2016 first-round pick, posted 28.5 sacks in his first four seasons with the 49ers.
The 49ers entered the trade deadline with a 31st-ranked pass-rush pressure rate of 23%.
Injured receivers Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel, Demarcus Robinson, and rookie De’Zhaun Stribling could return after the Nov. 8 bye week.

History

In 2000 the Baltimore Ravens, under Brian Billick, built a record-setting defense that allowed just 165 points and 970 rushing yards, leading to a Super Bowl XXXV win as a wild-card team. The 49ers’ 2024 trade for pass-rusher DeForest Buckner echoes that strategy, aiming to revive a dominant front similar to the Ravens’ turnaround.
