- The Terrorism Act 2000, passed in 2000 and reinforced by the 2006 Act after the 7 July 2005 London bombings, gave the Met police stop-and-search powers—1,126 arrests were recorded between September 2001 and December 2006 and 175,000 searches were carried out in 2008. Its legacy resurfaced in 2025 when Yvette Cooper proscribed Palestine Action and 532 demonstrators were arrested, prompting Met commander Adam Slonecki to warn of further charges.
