History

The 1997 Punjab Legislative Assembly election filled all 117 seats, with the Shiromani Akali Dal winning a majority and Parkash Singh Badal becoming chief minister. That decisive victory is recalled as parties often unveil full candidate slates before polls; Aam Aadmi Party’s 2024 early release of a 40-candidate list, featuring chief minister Bhagwant Mann, follows this historic practice.
