History

After the United States denied GPS data to the Indian military during the 1999 Kargil conflict, India approved its own navigation program in May 2006. ISRO launched the first IRNSS-1A satellite on 1 July 2013, establishing the regional NavIC system. A late-2026 GSLV-F18 launch of NVS-03 will add a fourth satellite, extending the constellation toward autonomous global-grade positioning.
